Can I identify a fish from just a photo?

Yes. On The Fish identifies fish from a single photo. No measurements or extra input required. You can add notes and location later to improve future suggestions.

Is the fish identification app free?

Yes. The free tier includes AI fish identification, catch logging and the map, with up to 10 lifetime AI identifications, 20 photo uploads, and 10 video uploads, plus 250 MB storage (videos up to 100 MB each). Pro unlocks higher lifetime limits: 200 AI identifications, 200 photos, 100 videos, 1.0 GB storage, and videos up to 200 MB each.

What species can the AI identify?

The model recognises hundreds of freshwater and saltwater species commonly caught by recreational anglers worldwide, from bass and pike to tuna, snapper and mahi mahi.

Where do catch limits come from?

After identification, we match your photo GPS (or manual location) to a fishing jurisdiction and show general catch limits text for that species, including bag limits, size rules and seasons where available. Limits are cached and admins can review them. This is informational only, not legal advice.

Does catch limits work worldwide?

Yes. The app uses GPS from your photo or a location you set to match country and region, then shows limits for that jurisdiction. Coverage grows as more species and areas are added.

Should I rely on the eating guide alone?

No. The guide is general information to help you decide what to look up further. Correct species identification matters, and regional toxins may not always be covered. When in doubt, do not eat the fish.

Does it work offline?

You need a connection to run fish identification. Eating guides and catch limits are available whenever you identify a fish or open a logged catch.
